From the time I was little I loved jewelry. Would you believe my mom doesn’t love jewelry? So where did I get it from? Well, I used to love playing in my grandparents, aunts and cousins jewelry boxes. I would take my time looking at each piece. My mom’s mom is “Grandmother”, loved costume jewelry and was never seen without some type of bling on. I remember she had multiple boxes with jewelry and some still had the Steinmart Price tag on. My dad’s mom “Grandma” always had a dark brown, patent leather, zippered case with a handle on it. That case was always filled with fun tubes of beads and string for me to play with. Each tube had a yellow cap, my favorite beads inside were the yellow and red stripped ones. Thinking back that was probably where my love for creating jewelry started.
From a young age I perpetually had some type of creation going. I worked with everything from beads, string, yarn, clay and paint. I still try to do new things… remind me to tell you about the time I tried to stain curtains with coffee 😬. Do you have a creative side, maybe a project that keeps you engaged and excited? So I started with Jewelry as a hobby turned business. I much prefer the creation to the business side but one does not exist without the other.
While I played in jewelry boxes I would put each piece on layer upon layer. I couldn’t choose just one thing to wear and why should I have to? All too often we say less is more, well not me. I think if you have it, you should wear it. This photo is a perfect example of what I mean. I think this is 6 maybe 7 pieces small to large, short to long. I try to stay with an uneven number but I guess these photos show otherwise.
In true form I typically mix my metals, stones, pendants and beads. Shown here you will see a baguette diamond choker worn with silver and bronze chains. I truly love the the black chain with the bee and heart pendants together along with the one just below that. The bronze chain has great detail but as you can see I still put two pendants on that. A sterling silver arrowhead with diamonds running down the middle with an owl stamped coin. The longest necklace you cant totally see but it is a beautiful black spinel wire wrapped chain with a marquise shape finding to add a little something to the look. (I do typically prefer black diamonds but when you need length you go with the black spinel which looks almost the same without the high cost of diamonds).
